Pink Shirt Anti-Bullying Day In Delta

It’s hard to believe that a year has passed since the 2025 Pink Shirt Anti-Bulling Day that has the City of Delta work with the Delta School District bringing students to the Sungod Arena for an event that helps promote kindness to the Delta Students Wednesday, Feb. 25th.

The event is held at the Sungod Arena in an event which the City of Delta partners with the Delta School District, Police and Fire departments for the Battle of the Badges hockey challenge commemorating Pink Shirt Day.

Clearly mentioned by Delta Mayor George Harvie “Bullying has no place in Delta—a belief we champion every day, and one we highlight especially on Pink Shirt Day.”

He continued “Each year, Delta council looks forward to watching our community leaders from Delta police and Delta Fire & Emergency Services connect with youth at Battle of the Badges, as they work to foster a safer and more inclusive community. These two teams always put on a great show, so I’m eager to see who will lift the trophy after this year’s game!”

Members from the Delta Police face-off in a two-period game against the Delta Firefighters who look to pull out a win for “bragging rights” until the next game in 2027.

The game is played in front of roughly 2,000 students, who have had their classes selected from across the Delta School District.

The annual event sees the two teams compete in a two-period, fast-paced, wildly entertaining hockey game to demonstrate how even in the spirit of fierce competition, kindness, courage, and respect are values everyone should embody.

Acting Delta Fire Chief Dave Wood mentioned “Battle of the Badges is an event that Delta Fire & Emergency Services looks forward to every year, as it gives us a chance to connect with the kids in this community and demonstrate the core values of the event – courage, kindness, and respect.”

He continued “It also gives us the opportunity to really show what it means to be a ‘Good Winner’ by exercising sportsmanship with some of our toughest competition.”

The morning will include live in-arena entertainment from DJ Rock ‘N Beau, photo opportunities, and much more.

Delta Police Chief Harj Sidhu mentioned “The Battle of the Badges has become a time-honoured Delta tradition, not just because of who plays, but because of what we play for.”

He continued “This game is about standing together against bullying and showing young people that our entire community, Delta police, Delta fire, the Delta School District, and the City of Delta is united in creating a safe and supportive environment for children and youth. Our officers see firsthand the impact bullying can have, and we encourage everyone to join us in speaking out and committing to this year’s theme to Sprinkle Kindness in our schools, online, and in everyday interactions. We also look forward to defending last year’s hard-fought 5-4 win over our friends at Delta fire.”

Dignitaries from council, the police, fire department, school district, Musqueum Indian Band, and Tsawwassen First Nation will also be in attendance to further the message to treat each other with kindness every day.

Delta School Board Chair Joe Muego mentioned “We’re absolutely delighted to once again see Delta students experience the fun and energy of Battle of the Badges.”

He continued “This annual friendly showdown between Delta fire and Delta police is always a highlight, not only because of the excitement it brings, but because it shines a spotlight on something truly meaningful – encouraging students to show kindness, empathy and compassion, and to stand up for one another, especially those who may be experiencing bullying.”
