The hockey sporting world has lost an exceptional coach who was extremely passionate about helping today’s youth for the betterment of their game working to help them advance to the next level reaching the pinnacle of success.
Mission City Outlaws head coach Martin Hak tragically passed away following a fatal car crash in Maple Ridge Sunday which involved multiple vehicles which took place at 128th Avenue near Laity Street.
“Coach Hak was a person who touched many people both on and off the ice. His keen intellect and passion for the game, humour and all-around personality will be missed greatly by the hockey community.”
A statement on social media read “He was more than just a hockey coach – he was a mentor, role model and friend to countless players, parents and families. We send our heartfelt condolences to his friends and family. Hak – we loved watching you coach, and our organization and players were lucky to have you this year.”
Hak was named the Outlaws’ Head Coach in the offseason after winning back-to-back Stonehouse Cup Championships as an assistant coach with the Ridge Meadows Flames.
Ridge Meadows Flames GM Derek Bedard mentioned “It’s absolutely devastating, of the news as he was as good as they come.”
Derek continued to go on saying “He’s the kind of guy who would drop everything to help someone he knew who also coached in the Ridge Meadows Minor Hockey Association for 10 seasons and coached lots of young athletes who are now young men,”
He played pro hockey as a defenceman for over eight years in Poland, Germany and Japan and was also a member of the 1995-96 Polish National Junior team.
