Travel for any sport is something that we all take for granted given the wide geographical area players for all sports travel locally, provincially or nationally.
Some have the luxury to travel by bus organized by the team or organization to transport the players from their home rink to the game and return.
Some question the driving skills of some of the drivers which I continue to question hearing some of the negative comments from various individuals.
First, if the driver(s) were unskilled or lacked the driving skills they wouldn’t be driving for the Bus Lines nor would they even get the chance to arrange or set-up an interview.
The most recent tragic situation until earlier today was the tragic event that involved the Humboldt Broncos hockey club who were tragically involved in the horrific accident April 6th, 2018 where 16 people were killed along with 13 others who were injured when a northbound coach bus struck a westbound semi-trailer truck that blew through a stop sign near Armley, Saskatchewan.
At first many were wondering who was in the wrong and following the police investigation it was determined that the truck driver failed to yield at a flashing stop sign at the intersection of Highways 35 and 335 while driving in excess of a speed exceeding at approximately 100 km/h (60 mph).
Canada and the world stood tall placing hockey sticks outside their front door to recognize the young players killed in the horrific accident.
Albeit a few years back the hockey world won’t forget the tragedy then earlier today we hear of yet another accident involving three young hockey players on route to a hockey practice The Southern Alberta Mustangs announced on social media that three of its players died in a motor vehicle collision on Monday.
The three players are Cameron Casorso, 18, and JJ Wright, 18, were both from Kamloops, B.C.
Caden Fine, 17, was from Birmingham, Alabama.
The Southern Alberta Mustangs Hockey Club play in the United States Premier Hockey League team and are based in Stavely, Alberta.
President of the Kamloops MHA Nathan Bosa mentioned that both Cameron Casorso and JJ Wright were playing in his league last year and only moved to Alberta to continue to pursue their hockey dreams after being an over-age player in the minor hockey league level of the game.
Clearly there are no words that can replace the hurt felt by everyone with the team, league and the hockey community at the present time with everyone working diligently with closely with the authorities, staff and players during this difficult time.
No further details have been released at this time considering the investigation on-going with all parties involved by the RCMP.
