Canadian Fencers Alanna Goldie and Shaul Gordon Win Bronze at the 2014 NCAA Fencing Championships.

Three of Canada’s top junior fencers qualified for the 2014 NCAA Men’s and Women’s Fencing Championships, which took place March 20-23, 2014 at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.

Calgary’s Freshman Alanna Goldie won Bronze in women’s foil for the Ohio State Fencing team on the second day of competition at the 2014 NCAA Fencing Championships.

She fell to the overall eventual champion from Notre Dame Lee Kiefer by a score of 15-11, in the semi-finals.

“The NCAA Championships are like no other competition I have competed in and both days were exhausting,” stated Goldie.

“There were ups and downs but I know I wouldn’t have achieved my third place without the amazing support of all the fencers at Ohio State as well as my coaches Yury Molchan and Vladimir Nazlymov.”

Canada had only two athletes in Men’s Saber competition and both did an exceptional job as they were up against World Class Fencers.
Shaul Gordon (Vancouver) a sophomore at University of Pennsylvania advanced to the semi-final round but fell short of the Championship to Penn State’s Kaito Streets who become this year’s NCAA champion.

Gordon was the 2013 NCAA Men’s Saber Silver medallist in his freshman year, while Ohio State freshman Fares Arfa (Montreal); finished 9th in the competition.

All three athletes will be representing Canada in a few short weeks at the 2014 World Junior Fencing Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria from April 3-12.
