For those living under a rock and seldom getting the chance to help promote and grow amateur sports there is one sport that you should focus on helping out with is Kids Sport BC.
Each area has their own chapter and/or organization with all doing an exceptional job helping young athletes who are in need of assistance.
While each community allows you to get involved with, they all rely on the assistance of volunteers who donate their time and are clearly the “unsung hero’s” of amateur sports in the Province.
Both myself and Kevin Adlem with Eastlink TV have covered the annual Gala in Delta for the past years and will once again be covering the event in 2026 which has taken a “new look” and approach which changes things up.
In the past the Gala has been held at Tsawassen Springs attracting a sell-out crowd from various parts of the community and aren’t short of bidding on Silent Auction Items as well as the raffle they have.
The event has been run by Carlene Lewell along with her committee that all began in the early 2000s as a part of the National KidSport program.
The program was kicked off in 1913 by Sport BC addressing financial barriers and issues addressing youth sports.
KidSport Delta provides grants to help families in the community with registration fees for organized sports and has seen increasing demand over the years.
There are other youth sports organizations in Delta having histories which include Delta Gymnastics which has just celebrated its 50th year anniversary which has had its own challenges, including a fire as well as the COVID-19 pandemic.
While Kids Sport Delta work alone they could grow if various minor sport associations would get on board and work together for the betterment of all youth sports in not only Delta but also other communities in the lower mainland.
The past while the committee has been contemplating a change of location and venue to help attract more to help grow and support Kids Sport, thus the venue change along with a new theme – “Country Fun.”
As in the past all donations help give a child the opportunity to belong, grow, and thrive through sport so lets “hog tie” your donations in hopes of raising $150,000 for local Delta kids!
Join us for a night of country fun — live music by Whiskey Blind, delicious eats from local food trucks, a mechanical bull, calf roping games, and more!
The Hoedown Showdown for the Kids on Saturday, April 25, 2026
Make note of the change of venue to the Heritage Hangar, Boundary Bay Airport with a Country Casual dress theme with ticket sales starting Friday December 5th.
