The 2025 Canada Cup International Softball Championship will take place from July 4–13, 2025, at Softball City in Surrey.
We have been fortunate to cover every Canada Cup since it began noting that we have also coverage has been both with Delta Cable in the early days as well as Rogers TV in a co-production.
The tournament again feature’s elite or high level Female Athletes from across the globe, including top national teams, collegiate programs, and high-performance youth teams remembering that the Canada Cup offers high-caliber games on all four diamonds.
Say what you will, this event was brought to light by two exceptional individuals namely Glen Todd who passed away in March, 2022 and Greg Timm who continues to run the event.

Since the first event Laird and I have had the privilege to be involved with the Canada Cup which has gone through changes since the opening pitch all which have been positive.
Prior to the event Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke mentioned “Surrey is proud to once again host Canada Cup, a premier event that highlights the incredible talent and dedication of female athletes from around the world.”
She continued by saying “This tournament not only brings international competition to our city, but it also inspires young people in our community to pursue their sporting dreams. We look forward to welcoming players, families, and fans from near and far to Softball City for an unforgettable sports experience.”
Hosted by the Canadian Amateur Sport Society, this tournament received a $5,000 Sport Tourism Grant which serves as a key platform for youth athletes seeking post-secondary sports scholarships.
Ticket packages range from $45 to $198, depending on age and division noting that Children under 12 receive free admission, and daily ticket options available.
The best part about reflecting on the Canada Cup is that we have to remember that it finally returned but only after the two-year hiatus or as some of the youngsters called it – the COVID-19 pandemic holiday.
Not the best way to get a holiday especially for the athletes who have trained long and hard to reach the olympic level of their chosen sport who were forced to train on their own.
Reflecting back to an interview with Canada Cup Chair Greg Timm who mentioned “There is no doubt that British Columbia’s and Canada’s successful record with respect to the COVID-19 pandemic has made our tournament a number one destination for international teams looking to re-engage in tier one international competition.”
He continued by saying “We are seeing unprecedented response to our call for teams, with confirmations from Team Canada, Team USA, Team Mexico, Team Australia, Team Netherlands, Team Chinese-Taipei, Team Czech Republic, among others, all coming to the Canada Cup in 2022.”
The 26th year showcases top Female Athletes from across Canada and the world with over 1,500 elite level athletes at the National and club level of the sport.
The event included five divisions: Women’s International, Futures Select (U19), Futures Gold (U19), Showcase Select (16U) and Showcase Gold (16U) to which Greg Timm mentioned “The response to the return of the Canada Cup has been beyond what we could have expected.”
His demure indicated that he was thrilled for the first pitch, continuing to mention “Without a doubt we will see the very best of the best at the 2022 event and from the top national teams to the elite club teams, we anticipate an incredibly strong tournament across all divisions.”
In September 2019 it was Team Canada catcher Kaleigh Rafter whose home run allowed Canada to defeat Brazil thereby qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
It was co-captained by Rafter who went on to win Bronze at the Olympic Games held in 2021 after a one-year postponement, earning it an official Canadian celebration noting that Rafter is now the Head Coach for the squad that saw the Olympic Recognition Ceremony taking place Friday, June 24th in front of a packed park.
