2026 Delta Sports Hall Of Fame Induction

The Delta Sports Hall of Fame was founded in 2005 by both co-founders Don Sangster and Steve Fera to recognize the achievements of local Delta Athletes past and present as well as specific role models in the City.

Both Don and Steve passed on the role of the committee chair and role of the president to Rick Lewell who continues to embrace the role with a group of volunteers who host an annual banquet each October.

The banquet is held at the Coast Hotel in Tsawassen on either the third or last Saturday in October which continues to sell-out with an impressive banquet which is covered by Eastlink TV, formerly Delta TV.

The event is hosted by Tim James who is the Master of Ceremonies and does an impressive job which he loves considering that he grew up in Delta and welcomes the opportunity to return to the City which embraced him as a youngster.

While it might take a couple of weeks due to everyone’s busy schedule, everyone who is inducted has their names permanently added to the glass panels in front of Delta’s City Hall located on the outdoor plaza in front of Delta’s Municipal Hall.

While those inducted have their name added the only exception to this is that the names of none of the volunteers who have been inducted have their name displayed on the glass wall.

Honestly speaking – DON’T ASK ME WHY AS EVERYONE INDUCTEED ALL STARTED AS A VOLUNTEER FOR THEIR CHOSEN SPORT IN DELTA – and we still question as to  why their names are not on display and BELIEVE ME – “WE HAVE ASKED”??????

This past weekend (October 24th) the Delta Sports Hall of Fame held its annual Banquet of Champions at the Coast Tsawwassen Inn where this year they recognized six (6) Hall of Fame Inductees and eleven (11) Sport Champions.

The keynote speaker for the event was given by Richard Hortness who is a two-time Swimming Olympian who competed at the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games and ironically now teaches at South Delta Secondary.

Rick Lewall, the Delta Sports Hall of Fame chair person, gave a personal thanks to this year’s banquet’s sponsors, noting that with their support the Hall allowed the honorees to attend at no cost.

Given the full list below we have personally have had a connection with Brad Lazarowich who is one of the longest-serving officials in NHL history.

He got his start in North Delta and was signed to an officiating contract in the NHL in 1986.

He officiated in 1,971 games before retiring noting that some of his career highlights include:
