Are Your Politicians Talking Sports Or Avoiding It?

The world of politics can and is strange at the best of times considering that ALL POLITICIANS are making promises that is meant to be benificial to the city in which you live.

Regardless of what you hear all promises could cost you money that will and can have have an outcome in your daily budget.

Given all the promises you are hearing about why is it that to date we have heard nothing about either updates or additions to sports in your area.

Locally in Delta we are hearing about promises of a new recreation centre built somewhere in North Delta, but where and at what cost to the tax payers.

We have not heard anything about how changes are happening with the Winskill Aquatic Centre and surrounding area which you can find out on the City of Delta website.

Given all the changes we are hearing about would only include a one story building whereas in China or Japan new buildings are being built “going up” rather than out where land is at a premium cost.

We are hearing about changes coming to John Oliver Park but no one is saying what they might be or even giving an indication of how they will happen.

I hear from football parents who regularly attend the park and we are hearing that there are minimal wooden benches to site on whereas the City should have added an additional two or more considering the usage the park gets.

The far side of the park has a couple of medal containers used for storage as we are told that are used to store various equipment which are also being used for coaches to stand on the roof during games and practice times.

These are old and should have been updated a few years back but as of yet they have yet to see any changes which coaches continue to question.

I got another a-mail along with a couple of calls mentioning that while they were impressed with the Delta Sport Hall Of Fame glass wall at City Hall.

Hearing from some they are wanting to know why the Wall of Fame does not have any volunteers names on the board considering that some current inductees.

Currently the names on the “Wall” includ 149 individuals and teams inducted for their lifetime achievement, and another 162 “sport champions” recognized for their performances in a given year – but still no volunteer names on the wall?

Delta has an exceptional number who help grow sports in the City and no doubt this will continue with them taking there career to the next level of their career and possibly advancing to the pro ranks.

So given all the issues in each area it’s time for your local politicians to let you know what their game plan is for the sporting community in your area?

If they have yet to talk about sports in your area – it’s time for you to push them for answers??
