C’s Secure Play-Off Dates

Anyone I have spoken with who is shocked about the summer has expressed how fast the summer has flown by with many pondering wondering if the C’s would make the post-season.

The wait is finally over  but it did come down to the final couple of games

The September 1st game saw the number get down to one that saw the C’s manage home runs from Gable Mitchell and David Calabrese adding the extra offense needed to secure a 3-1 win over the Tri-City Dust Devils. 

A pair of long balls backed a showing from C’s starter Connor O’Halloran and three C’s relievers to cut Vancouver’s magic number to clinch a postseason berth down to one with five games to play knowing that the following night required a stronger showing.

Tri-City started the scoring with a two-out solo shot in the bottom of the first, the Canadians took the lead for good in the top of the second. Calabrese – playing in his former home ballpark for the first time since 2025 after he was released by the Angels last month – singled with two outs to set the table for Mitchell, who clubbed the second homer of his pro career to make it 2-1.

O’Halloran looked his best since returning from the Injured List on July 28. The Mississauga, ON native fired four innings, allowed the solo homer as his lone hit, walked one and K’ed four before handing the ball to Reece Fields (W, 2-1).

The right-hander tossed three scoreless innings of relief between the fifth and seventh.

Calabrese would provide a much-needed insurance run in the seventh when he cracked a solo shot to put the C’s ahead 3-1.

Dax Dathe (H, 1) and Jack Eshleman (S, 4) combined on the final six outs. The latter managed to survive two runners in scoring position and one away in the ninth by inducing a game-ending, line out double play to secure the victory.

The Canadians will aim to punch their ticket tomorrow night. #8 Blue Jays prospect Dasan Hill takes the ball opposite #9 Angels prospect Dylan Jordan.

In need of one win to clinch they managed to secure their fourth playoff berth in six High-A seasons with a convincing 12-6 win over the Tri-City Dust Devils at Gesa Stadium.

After a scoreless first, the C’s plated five runs in the second to take a lead they would not relinquish. Ryan Sprock singled and two walks followed to load the bases for former Dust Devil David Calabrese, who doubled home a pair of runs to start the scoring. Jean Joseph added a two-run double in the next at bat and Dameury Pena cashed in with a run-scoring single later in the frame to make it 5-0.

Dariel Ramon plated another run with a two-out double in the third before Tri-City finally got to starter Dasan Hill for a run in the bottom of that inning. The lefty went three innings, allowed one run on three hits with a walk, a hit batter and four Ks.

Five runs in the fourth put the game away. Two walks set the table for Sprock, who laced a two-bagger into centre to score two runs. 

Maddox Latta singled him home in the next plate appearance then Calabrese drove in two more with a single to put Vancouver in front 11-1.

The Dust Devils would get one run in the sixth and seventh then two in the eighth, but reliever Holden Wilkerson (W, 9-7) would complete four innings of relief in which he scattered five hits, three walks and a pair of Ks.

Both teams scored in the ninth and the C’s went on to win 12-6 after Franly Urena got the final six outs.

All nine starters reached base and seven had a hit. Calabrese paced the offense with four hits while Ramon, Latta and Sprock joined him in a multi-hit effort.

With playoff baseball returning to The Nat Tuesday night, the C’s have four more regular season games to go. 

Their series with the Dust Devils continues tomorrow night, with Troy Guthrie taking on Peyton Olejnik. 

Games are set for September 8th and 9th with the first pitch set for 7:05 PM
