Warriors Drop A “Nailbiter”

While the Warriors played solid for four full periods it ended with a controversy ending up going to a video review with the on-floor goal being overturned by the game officials indicating that the Warriors goal was disallowed due to a player in the crease.

The review took a while that saw the fans go home in shock feeling that the home team got “robbed” due to the review thinking that the system needs to have an update, but that’s up to the league brass.

Given the change in the weather many we spoke with were hoping for a change or simply a different outcome for the Vancouver Warriors in a Friday night “tilt” against the San Diego Seals.

This contest was labeled as a “Country Theme Night” for the Warriors which is a huge draw for the club who has been hosting this night for a few years now which is one of the more popular ones they feature.

It was the Seals who jumped out to a fast start managing to get an early 3-1 lead on the jump in the opening 15 minutes with Tre Leclaire helping for the early lead and quick start 32 seconds in which ironically was on the first shot in the game from either club.

It was the visiting Seals special teams unit who worked magic on the next two goals with Connor Robinson getting a PP marker along with Zach Currier scoring on a delayed penalty 32 seconds later.

Chris Origlieri was solid between the pipes, holding Vancouver off the scoreboard that saw the Warriors’ only goal coming off a San Diego turnover with 53 seconds remaining in the quarter with the Seals starting the second quarter much faster.

Leclaire sent one of his “marque behind the back passes” to Danny Logan, who got one past Warriors Christian Del Bianco for his first of the season.

The Seals managed their next one while on a delayed penalty with Pat Kavanagh sending one past Del Bianco for the 5-1 lead which was short-lived with the Warriors Adam Charalambides scoring at 10:16 bringing the Warriors fans to their feet.

Vancouver managed to go on a 5-1 run pulling even at six that saw Charalambides add a PP goal, adding extras from Reid Bowering, Keegan Bal and former Seal Curtis Dickson.

The Seals put Vancouver’s scoring streak on hold that saw Dylan Watson getting one with 4:13 left in the quarter grabbing a loose ball in front of the Vancouver crease putting one past Del Bianco putting the Seals up 7-6 at the half.

The Seals started the third that saw Pat Kavanagh find Tre Leclaire who buried his second giving San Diego an 8–6 lead followed when Danny Logan was sent to the sin-bin giving Vancouver a PP that the Seals killed holding on to the two-goal lead.

The Warriors got one at the 9:19 of the third, pulling within one making it 8–7 only to have the Seals Dylan Watson restore the Seals’ two-goal lead.

Vancouver was assessed a roughing minor with just over a minute left in the quarter only to have the Seals San hold the lead entering the last quarter.

The Seals Zach Currier got his second of the game taking a 10–7 lead that saw Vancouver manage to score with 1:04 remaining pulling within two eventually adding one in the final minute making it a 10–9 game bringing the “Country” fans to their feet.

The pressure was clearly on Vancouver who pulled Del Bianco for the extra attacker only to have the Seals find the empty net putting the game on ice for the 11–9 win.
