Delta Islanders Awards Night

With practices currently underway for various Lacrosse Associations we attended the Delta Islanders award night held December 27th at the Sundance Pub in Ladner that was well attended by players and parents alike.

The size of those attending was a surprise to  some of the executives who mentioned that “this is the largest and best turnout they can remember.”

Once underway Islanders President and Governor Matt Hoegg got things underway with the awards being presented first followed by a “tasty” chicken dinner which was exceptional if I do say so myself.

Upon entry everyone was given a ticket for a draw for  various door prizes which seemed to go on and on with the winners going home with a variety of prizes while yours truly was forced to go home empty handed leaving with great memories

Various individuals from players and parents alike came over to thank Sportswave for doing the live stream for all games the past season allowing fans to watch for free with all games played at the Ladner Leisure Centre.

True there was a cost but I managed to absorb it allowing free streaming, which we are currently in discussion with for the upcoming season which we’ll keep you posted on.

All of the awards were presented by Delta Islanders President/Governor Matt Hoegg, Junior B1 Coach Nathan Wilson and Greg Leong Junior B Tier 2 and Junior B Tier 3 Governor.

The awards in no particular order are as follows:

Junior B2 Awards presented by Quin Bianchini

Junior B Tier 2 Rookie of the Year Raine Jerome

Junior B Tier 2 Unsung Hero Tyler Kinnie

Junior B Tier 2 Defensive Hero Tyler Nakano

Junior B Tier 2 Offensive Player Niko Bocolas

Junior B Tier 2 Most Valuable Player Nate Broast

Junior B Tier 2 Most Improved Player Dryden Van Der Eerden

All Junior B Tier 1 Awards presented by Nathan Wilson

Junior B Tier 1 Rookie of the Year Darius King

Junior B Tier 1 Most Improved Player Holden Johnson

Junior B Tier 1 Unsung Hero Chris Paddon

Junior B Tier 1 Most Valuable Defensive Player Ben Eckert

Junior B Tier 1 Most Valuable Offensive Player Levi Crooks

Junior B Tier 1 Most Valuable Player Griffin Withers

Junior A Most Valuable Offensive Player Jared Maznik

Junior A Most Valuable Player Jett Burns/Greyson Beggs (co-winners)

Junior A Most Improved Player Sebastian Miles

Junior A Top Graduating Player Cameron Squarek

Overall the Awards night was a huge success for all three teams, the players, the executive as well as the Parents which was done in a professional manner which took a while to organize the night from the start.

Up next for the Islanders is the annual draft held at the Langley Events Centre with some asking what is the BCJALL Entry Draft?
The Entry draft is designed to disperse the first year Junior-aged players located in either the Lower Mainland or Vancouver Island for their Junior eligible playing years (17-21).

Only players in the Lower Mainland or Vancouver Island who don’t have a Junior A franchise in their catchment are eligible.

If you have a Junior A franchise in your catchment, you are automatically protected by that Club for your Junior eligible playing years (17-21).

Both myself and Jagraj Lalli had a great time live streaming all games from the Ladner Leisure Centre which we thank the players, the parents, the executive and visiting team personal for their kind words!
