Earlier in the week Eastlink TV’s Kevin Adlem and myself had the luxury to attend the annual “Boom” Award presentation held at Tsawwassen Springs which was well attended by several members.
The wait was over with the winner being Inspired in North Delta with the announcement being that the recipient of the 3rd Annual BOOM Award is Altmaerker German Sausage House and Deli, a cornerstone of Delta’s business community since opening in 2012.
Altmaerker’s loyal customers routinely travel great distances for their favourites, and their products have reached communities from Haida Gwaii to Lac La Hache and beyond.
Their deli has earned multiple North Delta Reporter Readers’ Choice Gold Awards, including four in 2025.
Their greatest test came on November 12, 2016, when fire destroyed their offsite production facility.
Rather than giving up, the Tills reorganized immediately, moving production into the back of the deli, and working quickly to ensure their customers could still enjoy their favourites.
What could have been a fatal setback instead became a defining moment of strength, determination and renewal.
Today, the Tills continue to enrich Delta’s community life — from the Stanley Cup Playoff Watch Parties, North Delta Family Day Parade, Terry Fox Run, to operating their store and attending multiple community festivals all in a single day.
