Regardless of where you live you can’t go wrong if you get involved with the community with clubs and/or organizations which make living there worthwhile given that there are so many opportunities to become active.
While not everyone will agree with that, being activally involved takes the stress out of your everyday frustrations that many of us often face at work, on the road or even in our daily lives.
The City of Delta has various events over the holiday season and since we received the following release sent out, we wanted to let the community know what’s available over the holidays.

What Makes a Bog Tick?
Bogs—those mysterious, mist-shrouded wetlands—are among the most fascinating and dynamic ecosystems on Earth.
Despite their ecological significance, bogs remain misunderstood and undervalued.
This talk invites the audience to learn about their unique ecological processes, astonishing biodiversity, and the critical roles bogs play in our region as well as what conditions are necessary to support these biodiverse ecosystems in a highly urbanized landscape.
Come and learn about how rainwater is critical to specific bog types, how bogs capture sunlight and carbon dioxide, how fire can affect bog ecology, how one measures a bog’s breath, and other fascinating details relating to what makes a bog tick. This talk presented by retired Metro Vancouver biologist, Markus Merkens.

Fall Movie Series: Savage Christmas: Hong Kong, 1941
In the autumn of 1941, nearly 2,000 inexperienced Canadian soldiers were sent to Hong Kong at the request of the British government as a symbolic show of strength that would deter a Japanese attack on the colony.
Canada’s soldiers found themselves in the midst of a desperate battle they could not hope to win. On Christmas Day, 1941, the British colony of Hong Kong officially surrendered to Japan.
The surviving defenders became prisoners of war. Over the next three and a half years, many of them would come to envy the dead. This documentary contains scenes of violence. Viewer discretion is advised.
