While many ponder about the ones that volunteer in the world of sports once again this year BC Football officially announces the newest induction for the 2026 Hall of Fame.

Legendary reporter Grant Kerr and a quartet of former BC Lions players headline the BC Football Hall of Fame Class of 2026 which will be formally inducted October 9th ahead of the Lions versus the Ottawa REDBLACKS game.

For over five decades, Kerr wrote the must-read sports stories if you were a fan of the BC Lions and the CFL.

He worked, briefly, for the BC Lions but was best known for writing for The Canadian Press and the Globe & Mail where he covered a wide variety of sports including football, hockey, and baseball.

Paul Osbaldiston and Davis Sanchez will be inducted into the professional athlete category. Osbaldiston was a BC Lions draft pick in 1986 but played just three games with the team.

He’s best known for his lengthy career with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats where he became one of the most prolific kickers of all-time while winning two Grey Cups.

Sanchez ended his career in BC winning his third Grey Cup title in 2011 and was a standout cornerback throughout his entire CFL career, most of it spent with the Montreal Alouettes with whom he had three separate stints while also winning a Grey Cup.

Javier Glatt and Rob Moretto will be inducted into the amateur athlete category. Both Glatt and Moretto parlayed successful amateur careers into professional careers with the BC Lions.

Glatt was a defensive all-star with the UBC Thunderbirds setting three school records during his time with UBC and being named a three-time CIS All-Star.

He also won a Grey Cup in 2006 with the BC Lions. Moretto started for both Notre Dame Regional Secondary School in high school football winning championships at the Grade 8, Junior and Senior championship levels, before moving on to UBC where he was part of the Thunderbirds’ 1986 national championship team.

In the team category, the 40th anniversary of the Vancouver Dolphins’ 1986 touch football national championship team will be recognized.

As flag football prepares to make its 2028 Summer Olympic Games debut and momentum continues to grow for touch football’s inclusion, the Dolphins remain pioneers whose legacy continue to inspire the sport.

The 1986-1991 Vancouver Dolphins were inducted into the BC Football Hall of Fame in 2017.

“Our Class of 2026 is an exemplary group of individuals who have shaped football, and in many cases continue to shape football in the province of British Columbia,” said Tom Malone, CEO of the BC Football Hall of Fame. “

These individuals have left an indelible mark on our great game, and we are looking forward to celebrating their formal induction on October 9.

He continues “We are also extremely grateful to the BC Lions Football Club, team owner Amar Doman, and President Duane Vienneau, for once again being a tremendous partner for us in helping us mark this occasion, and the BC Sports Hall of Fame for hosting our induction ceremony.”

Legendary NHL play-by-play broadcaster Jim Robson will be receiving a Special Award, while infamous CFL statistician Steve Daniel will receive the CFL Bob Ackles Award.

The BC Football Hall of Fame is also introducing a new category this year: The Frank Smith Coach Builder Award.

This new award will be presented to Bill Cole, a long-time coach at Notre Dame Reigonal Secondary School.

Additionally, the BC Football Hall of Fame has also established the Larry Reda High School Football Scholarship Award.

The inaugural recipient is WJ Mouat quarterback Elijah Black, who was the 2025-26 MVP of BC High School Football.
